Rangoli : Not meant for boys, really !

Posted March 27th, 2010 in Wheels by Ankit

So, we tried our hands on Rangoli for first time in Culrav 2010. Not really what we expected output to be. I am putting this under Re-invented wheel (you can see why) :P

Team Members : Initially 3 (Me, Aveek and Syed) and later on around 8 more from first year joined us.
Theme : “Dream”
What we’ve done : A incomplete-complete rangoli + lot of fun.
What we were trying to depict : no you won’t get it in first go and I am not telling you either. Its quite deep to get. Scratch your head, and find out. Continue Reading »

My first FLEX Application

Posted March 25th, 2010 in Techie things by Ankit

Recently we had a small workshop at our college teaching some basics of Adobe Flex. Two people from Adobe, Sujit Reddy and Prashant were there to tell us what flex was all about. And I must say, I am impressed the way they carried out the workshop.

Actually, I tried my hands on Flex last year too referring to the documentation. But it is way too confusing for a beginner. Actionscript, MXML, Designer, Debugger…phew ! who will deal with all that in first go. Anyways, here is screenshot to my first App. This application takes data from an XML file, and compare different mobile models. It has a login screen too with some cool wipe out effects. Everything was made in under 1.5 hours referring to document given by them. A person who know flex properly could probably make it in 10-15 minutes.

CLUBMCA – Sharing Computer Concepts

Posted March 10th, 2010 in Featured by Ankit

This is the online version of the discussions we do as a group here in our College. The basic idea is to Learn more concepts in short duration of time with a better understanding. Placements were also the reason we started it up.

The Club is trying to find an answer to this boring problem as learning together from each other kills the”bore”.  Here at CLUBMCA we are making an effort to Learn something New as a Group. We want this club to be a platform for all of us to learn and understand Computer Science better.

How it all Started :

The thought that initiated the decision of starting CLUBMCA was to make our studies interesting along with the college curriculum, which expects the students to have a unidirectional approach. Apart from being bit more theoretical than required (considering we are studying computers),there is also lack of availability of knowledge. Even after years of studies lot of us are stuck up with Pointers and Variables. Is that what computer science is all about ?

This was the question we were asking. So, we decided to form a group here at MNNIT for our learning purpose. We started up around November and must say, Learned a lot in just 2-3 months. It worked out so well that now, in February, we decided to take it online with the expectation that we’ll find few more interested ones from other colleges to join in who are interested in Actually Learning Computers, not just mugging it up.

Moving away from Boring Studies

Posted February 4th, 2010 in Padai Likhai, Wheels by Ankit

Its a saturation point for me in studies. Some subjects I’ve studied thrice and still my so called Concepts in them are not clear. :P

Few months back we started up with the idea that there should be some better way to learn Computers. When I talked to some of my friends, they don’t even have explanation on why they are here. Only thing that comes out is “I am in for a good Job”. And as such people are increasing day by day, the value of being a Computer Professional is going down. Its kind of a too common thing being related to IT as a profession.
